This is one of four Emergency Vehicles Operation curriculum units designed as a practical, in-vehicles training program based on instructional events used at the California Highway Patrol Academy. This unit considers pursuit driving and is directed at the instructor.
Abstract
First, major administrative considerations are outlined, including facilities, equipment, instructor qualifications, student qualifications, class size, and preparation for initial administration. Then an overall description of the six modules which form the Pursuit Driving Course Unit is provided. These modules are: the initial briefing, demonstrations, skid pan practices, the oval tract, high-speed practices, and code-3 run. Instructor preparation activities are outlined, both for general administrative practices and for each of the modules. Trainee knowledge and performance objectives are briefly listed. Finally, each module is detailed in separate sections, with eight appropriate diagrams and illustrations to accompany the text. A bibliography of 26 references and an audiovisual directory are appended.
