The commission maintains a continuous review of this province's statute and common law and judicial decisions in the interests of systematic development and reform. Its aims include codification, elimination of anomalies, repeal of obsolete and unnecessary enactments, reduction in the number of separate enactments, and simplification and modernization of the law. Most of the year's programs and activities involved the continuation of projects begun in previous years. Among these were a research project on family law covering the areas of family maintenance, laws pertaining to children, and marriage laws; a study of consumer credit law as part of an overall examination of personal property security law; a collection and analysis of data on provincial offenses; and studies of occupiers' liability law and medical-legal issues. Other projects were concerned with a review of recent studies of the procedural law of judicial review and of the standards for administrative agencies and a review of a study of the Jury Act; an examination of the laws of England which are still in force in the province. Additional projects included a review of the general effect of the 1975 Married Woman's Property Act upon settlements made out of court; and a study of mandatory notices of claim and commencing actions as they relate to specific periods of time. Sections also discuss general plans and events for the coming year, completed projects, and commission personnel.
