The activities of the Law Reform Commission of Saskatchewan, Canada, for 1979 are reviewed.
Abstract
The commission is responsible for the review of the Province's laws with a view to their systematic development and reform. Its aims include codification, the elimination of anomalies, the repeal of obsolete and unnecessary enactments, the reduction in number of separate enactments, and the simplification and modernization of the laws. Most of the commission's projects were commenced in previous years. The family law project produced papers regarding the reform of custody law and the civil rights of children. The consumer credit project produced a background paper, a statistical description of consumer credit, and a paper on secured consumer credit transactions. The provincial offences project was concerned with the statutes governing provincial offenses and recommendations for noncustodial methods of enforcement. Other project activities included reviewing the present law of occupiers' liability; studying the consent of minors to health care; and reviewing licensing, inspection, benefits, and compensation. Further projects were concerned with a review of the Jury Act, the revision of the remaining laws of England, policy issues in the areas of notices of claim and commencing actions, frustrating events as they influence contracts, and the reform of the sale of goods law. Final reports from two projects, plans for 1980, and personnel information are also included. A 23-item publication list and a copy of the act that established the commission are provided.
