Phases in implementing and operating a domestic violence program are outlined in this manual, intended for practitioner use as a workbook.
Abstract
Phase one consists of information gathering and includes activities such as steering committee formation, information and resource data collection, needs assessment, and the development of a community education program. Phase two emphasizes organizational development activities including the role of the governing board of directors, the selection of board members, committee structures, and incorporation considerations. Program development activities constitute the third phase and include identifying an executive director, obtaining a facility, and identifying services to be offered. Management activities are addressed in phase four. These activities include staffing and scheduling, coping with burnout, and communications. Service considerations are considered under phase five, including establishing service criteria and rules and confidentiality. The final phase is self-renewal, including evaluation, improvements, and expansion of the program. Appendices list planning, funding, and public relations considerations. No references are given.
