The text of a model law addressing the creation, dissemination, and disposition of juvenile and family court records, developed in 1980 to insure the security and confidentiality of the records, is presented here.
Abstract
The model is the work product of the Model Court Systems and Technology Committee of the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges. It is a comprehensive and practical approach to juvenile and family court information system practices, assuring not only protection of the children and their families from harm through improper practices, but adequate information needed by the court. The model is flexibly designed so that it may be adapted to the legislative needs of each State. The text of the law, a list of the committee members at the time one law was developed, the background of the law, and the information on how to obtain a copy of the law are included.
