An introductory section reports on the magnitude of Index crimes in the State and includes statistical tables for 1973 through 1978. Further sections cover the system's major components: law enforcement, courts, adult corrections, juvenile justice, information systems, and criminal justice planning agencies. In each section, agencies are organized under the headings of State government, local government, and private sector. Courts are divided into grand juries, major trial courts, other courts, appellate courts, and judicial agencies. A narrative description accompanies each listing and provides information on the historical background, governing authority, chief executive or administrative officers, location of headquarters and installations, and legal authority. Also covered are functions, powers, duties and responsibilities, and recent budget data; statistical tables support many descriptions. A final section provides information on the State's interest groups and associations which have an impact on the criminal justice system. For each of the 48 groups, a narrative description and a source for additional information are provided. These materials are expected to enhance system coordination and to help maximize the control of crime. Footnotes with references are included.
