Four tapes, a student handbook, and a teacher's guide for test materials deal with the subject of investigative procedures used in all police investigations and in specific investigations of burglary, prostitution, and suicide.
Abstract
The tape on principles of investigation, emphasizing the general procedures that pertain to any type of an investigation, covers functions of the investigator through interrogation to case preparation. The second tape, dealing with investigations of crimes against property, (specifically burglary), discusses techniques designed to identify the means by which breaking and entering has occurred. It describes how the evidence leading to this identification may be used to locate the person or persons responsible for the crimes. The third tape, dealing with the investigation of vice operations such as prostitution, explores investigative procedures. These procedures can lead to evidence accumulation that will result in the arrest and successful prosecution of prostitutes and pimps. The last tape deals with investigations of crimes against people, such as suicide. This tape discusses techniques designed to enable the investigator to determine whether a suicide or a murder has been committed. The student handbook outlines each tape; lists important names, terms, and concepts discussed; and provides lists of supplemental readings. Also included are an investigative profile and an opinion poll designed for class discussion. The teacher's manual provides test questions and answers for each tape, along with suggestions for projects and activities.
