The director of the Georgetown Juvenile Justice Law Center in Washington, D.C., explains the process used to select the standards and their organization into sections dealing with prevention, administration, intervention, adjudication, the supervisory process, and suggestions for implementation. A review of the principles underlying the standards is included. Then, a past president of the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges discusses some of the standards. Bases for and forms of intervention receive attention, as do the criteria for referral detention, and protective custody decisions.
