The director of the center's juvenile justice legal advocacy project explains that the project aims to help States implement the goals of the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act, particularly concerning the deinstitutionalization of status offenders and the removal of children from adult jails and lockups. Advocacy services are provided in various States to help agencies prepare legislation and to help implement and guide litigation. In addition, the director of the Community Research Center in Champaign, Ill., discusses statistics on juveniles in adult jails, innovative legislation in Pennsylvania aimed at removing juveniles from jail, and the national jail removal initiative at the Office of Juvenile Justice.
