This annual report provides statistical information about offenders who were under the supervision of the Nebraska Department of Corrections during fiscal year 1979-80; admissions, releases, parolees, and incarcerated individuals are included.
Abstract
Adult male offenders in confinement numbered 977 at the close of the fiscal year, representing an increase of 2.52 percent from the previous report period. Of adult male offenders currently confined, 61.5 percent were first-time felony incarcerations. The age distribution of the institutional population exhibited little change from previous years. Adult male offenders in the postcare program numbered 169 at yearend, representing a decrease of 7.14 percent. The number of adult male offenders on parole also decreased, from 395 to 309. Forty percent of the parolees were serving maximum sentences of 5 years or less. Adult male admissions to incarceration increased 12.23 percent this year, and releases increased 17.7 percent. There were 35 adult female offenders confined by the end of the year. Adult female offenders assigned to the postcare program totaled 17. Thirty-five female offenders were on parole as of June 30, 1980. Female admissions to incarceration numbered 50 during the fiscal year; 9 were sentenced to 1 year or less of imprisonment. Female offender releases totaled 26. Extensive tables comprise this statistical report.
