This report focuses on the four courses currently being delivered at Criminal Justice Training Centers (CJTC's) throughout the country; the courses include criminal justice planning, analysis, monitoring, and evaluation.
Abstract
Subjects considered include the relevance of the training program courses to participants' needs, suggestions for course modification based on the evaluator's observations, an assessment of the CJTC trainers, an assessment of the residual capability of the CJTC's, and other topics suggested by the evaluator. The evaluation was based on pilot presentations of the courses. Participants in the pilot presentations and subsequent CJTC presentations were selected through a combination of decisions from three different sources: their own professional interest, their employment unit whose support was necessary for their attendance at the course, and the approval of the center presenting the course. The criminal justice management course was presented over 4.5 days and was designed to help participants enhance capabilities for planning and organizing criminal justice activities. The course could be shortened to 3 days by conducting the group activities more effectively and by eliminating some of the substantive material. In general, participant response to the course was positive. All of the sessions at various training sites were strongly influenced by the personality, teaching skills, and experience of the instructor. Course content can be improved through interaction of the CJTC's, particularly concerning participant need. Exhibits, figures, tables, and appendixes of related data are provided.
