Among the Federal agencies discussed is the FBI, which collects arson statistics, prepares publications, and offers reference services to police agencies through its academy library. The LEAA Arson Unit conducts an arson grant and aid program, enters into interagency training agreements, and publishes relevant materials. The National Criminal Justice Reference Service is an international clearinghouse of law enforcement and criminal justice information and offers reference services and free copies of its publications. The U.S. Fire Administration offers arson training through inservice courses at the administration's new National Fire Academy. The agency's Resource center provides materials and references and referral services free of charge to law enforcement personnel. The National Bureau of Standards Center for Fire Research conducts research in fire investigative techniques; develops tools, methodologies, and procedures for fire investigators; and publishes guidelines for investigators. Insurance industry efforts discussed include the production of publications, the sponsoring of seminars, and the promotion of community awareness programs. Among the private nonprofit organizations considered are the International Association of Arson Investigators, the Insurance Crime Prevention Institute, and the Insurance Crime Prevention Institute, and the Insurance Committee for Arson Control.
