This handbook describes the operation of the Juvenile Probation Management Information System in New Jersey.
Abstract
This is an offender-based information system designed to assist probation officers in the supervision of juveniles and to assist county and State probation officials in the administration of probation. The system consists of three basic components. It begins with a Juvenile Profile Report which develops an exhaustive profile of the juvenile as of the beginning of the term. Then, a series of update reports enable the system to keep up with major changes in status throughout the probation term. Finally, a Juvenile Termination Report reviews the services delivered throughout the term and identifies the juvenile's needs as of the end of term. Major sections focus on each element. The system has been designed for computer analysis by means of the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences -- which enables the data base to be easily manipulated for both research and management purposes. Among the reports that can be generated are regular periodic reports, annual reports, and special reports on issues of particular interest. System codes presented in a separate section include county/State, municipality, offense, handicap, special-condition, judge, probation-officer, and reason-for-termination codes. Appendixes contain a list of local places in the State, information on the New Jersey Code of Criminal Justice, a classification of occupations, and a drug list.
