This film portrays the existence of one inmate incarcerated at the Collins Bay Penitentiary in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, with the focus of attention centered on the man's inner mental anguish and isolation.
Abstract
The inmate is serving a 5-year sentence for an unspecified crime. In an effort to maintain his sanity, the man writes poetry to express his feelings of loneliness, claustrophobic desolation, and hopelessness. In the beginning of the film, the viewer sees the inmate eating his dinner and composing poetry while the camera shows his cell from different angles. Music is used to add to the effect of the film. The main theme is unmistakable: no matter what the man does, he will be confined to the penitentiary to serve his term; he lost control over his life when he broke the rules of society.
