Part of a series of training demonstrations by practicing trial lawyers and law enforcement officers in a criminal prosecution, this film describes the arrest of a 23-year-old suspect on charges of robbery and murder.
Abstract
Following the robbery of the Big Ten Party Store and Beverage House in Ann Arbor, Mich., and the death of the proprietor, the police broadcast a detailed description of two suspects, based on the reports of two eyewitnesses. The broadcast describes the robbery and the items taken, including about $2,000 in bills and checks and several bottles of whisky. At about 3 a.m., one of the suspects is stopped by the police for violating a stop sign and is recognized as fitting the description given in the broadcast. The officer handcuffs the suspect, searches the car, and upon finding a 38-caliber pistol answering to the description in the police broadcast, places the suspect under arrest on charges of robbery and murder. In addition, the officer advises the suspect of his rights, searches the trunk of the car where he locates a coil of rope, and has the car towed to police headquarters.
