Abstract
The report reviews such new trends as classifying cases according to the level of supervision required and identifying risk level and specific client needs early and accurately. Particular manifestations of this trend are (1) a basic model adapted by the individual probation officer through the allocation of time and proper classification of cases; (2) the team approach, where all officers participate in every case to plan services for meeting the needs of each client; and (3) the assignment of officers in a one-to-one relationship for intensive cases and as overseers for community resources and volunteer services in medium and minimum supervision cases. The types of programs described are alcohol awareness, basic job readiness training, community liaison, community work orders, counseling, court liaison officer, driving-while-impaired, employment, female offender, high school liaison, institution liaison officer, life skills, public relations, recreation, sexual offender, training and orientation, victim-offender reconciliation, volunteer, and work creation. The locations of the programs, and the name and telephone number of a contact person for each program are provided.
