This topic kit was developed to facilitate delinquency prevention efforts of the educational system. The initial topic, concepts of law, deals with such subjects as who makes the law, rights and responsibilities of citizens, application of the law, school rules, breaking the law, and accepting responsibility. Specific criminal offenses which are most often committed by juveniles are then discussed. The subjects of trespass and burglary, theft, assault, robbery, disorderly conduct, controlled substances, and status offenses are addressed. Procedures of the juvenile justice system, such as juvenile court hearing, juvenile court investigations, dispositional plans, juvenile court records, social consequences of involvement, and corrections, are described. In addition, each unit includes goals, vocabulary, suggested discussion topics, special activities, and suggested resource material. A glossary, a crossword puzzle, and a resource list are appended to the kit.
