During this period, the courts reported 6,895 cases disposed by the courts. Of these cases, 89 percent were delinquency cases, 1 percent were traffic violation cases, 8 percent were neglect and abuse cases, and 2 percent were special proceedings cases. Law enforcement agencies referred 74 percent of all cases; parents and relatives referred 14 percent of the cases; and social agencies, probation officers, schools, and other sources referred 12 percent. Males composed 71 percent of all reported cases and females 29 percent. About 53 percent of all cases involved whites, 46 percent blacks, and 1 percent Indians or another race. Additional information is given on the juvenile's school attainment and adjustment, family income, marital status of natural parents, and other social environment factors. Data are also presented on the 117 out-of-State juvenile cases handled by the State's youth courts for the first 6 months of 1979. Data tables and the data collection form are provided.
