The number of offenses reported to law enforcement agencies in Oklahoma decreased by .7 percent over the number of offenses reported in 1975. Violent crimes (murder, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault) decreased by 4.3 percent, while the nonviolent crimes (breaking and entering, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft) decreased .4 percent statewide. Larceny-theft was the largest category of Index crime reported in 1976 and showed an increase of 9.9 percent over 1975. However, the number of murders in 1976 decreased 28.9 percent over 1975.
