Abstract
The institute's work is compared to that of law reform commissions in other parts of Canada. Personnel responsibilities and authority is delineated and Alberta government action based on the institute's past reports concerning residential tenancies and matrimonial support is summarized. Other assistance to government was given regarding company law. Among reports issued in 1978-79 were topics such as family relief, specific problems of the Builders' Lien Act, contributory negligence, guest passenger legislation, interspousal tort immunity, and service of documents during postal interruptions. Listed are 13 current law reform projects on the subjects of administrative law remedies, company law, defamation, evidence, and others. The institute's research function is explained in terms of projects, community research, and grants. Also listed are papers published by institute staff. Concluding explanations give the institute's relationships with two universities, with the practicing bar and bench of Alberta, and with other law reform bodies. Appendixes summarize the institute's history, and list board members and legislation based on the institute's recommendations.
