The study describes a 5-year criminological followup of a series of white-collar offenders who started work as the result of placement efforts by a specialist employment agency.
Abstract
At the end of the 5 years, 22 percent were reconvicted, but there were considerable differences between subcategories. Ex-offenders who stayed at the arranged job for a substantial length of time (over 1 year) seemed to do particularly well. Furthermore, those ex-offenders for whom a considerable placing effort was required seemed to respond in a dramatic manner with an explicit avoidance of subsequent reconvictions over the 5 years. The findings justify continued efforts to place ex-offenders in suitable jobs with the hope of forestalling renewed criminal involvement. Tabular data and nine references are given.
