This article profiles college-attending prison inmates' personality and vocational interests based on Holland's theory of careers and an assessment of their attitudes that are critical in realistic career decisionmaking.
Abstract
A total of 118 male inmates enrolled in community college courses in Maryland volunteered for the study. They took a battery of vocational and career tests that indicated inmates to be developmentally in the early stages of career planning. Inmates' pattern of career interests appears to be much more diverse than that of men in general and their sophistication in vocational decisionmaking less. They need help in vocational planning, particularly considering the added burden of a prison record. Study data and 12 references are supplied.
