Judges, defense attorneys, and prosecutors are part of a courthouse community that responds to organizational pressures. This research investigates whether the clients of 'repeat-players' enjoy special benefits or bear special burdens when punishments are distributed.
Abstract
Previous research has found that the clients of repeat-players frequently fare worse than other defendants. In the court under study, we find the distribution of justice unaffected by this variable. The task for future research is to specify those conditions under which the level of attorney-court contact either will or will not have an impact on the distribution of punishment.
