Abstract
Source for this compilation include the Federal Reporter, Federal Supplement, Federal Rules Decisions, Criminal Law Reporter, and United States Law Week. In 1980, nearly 1,500 State and Federal decisions were digested to produce approximately 3,000 annotations. Cases are categorized under 56 topical headings, such as access to courts, discipline, dead time and time credit, good time, jurisdiction, personal injury, parole conditions, staff standards and training, transfers, and visitation. This particular edition has greatly increased the number of cases on sentencing and included a section documenting Supreme Court activity. Selected cases on mental commitments cover involuntary commitment, transfer to mental institutions from prison, and commitment in lieu of sentence. Topics are arranged alphabetically, and the decisions reported during the year are placed alphabetically under the topics. Each case is digested under as many topics as is appropriate. A table of cases identifying the topics under which they may be found and a topic index are provided.
