Abstract
Statistics are presented for men released from the correctional institutions at Walpole, Concord, Norfolk, and Framingham; the three forestry camps; and eight prerelease centers. Statistics are included for women released from the institution at Framingham and the Charlotte House Prerelease Center. A total of 806 persons (711 men and 95 women) were released from the aforementioned institutions. The followup period is 1 year from the date of release. A recidivist is defined as any person who returns to a State or Federal correctional institution, a house of correction, or jail for 30 days or more. The recidivism rates are cross tabulated with each of the categories of statistical data on individual characteristics. Data on releasee background characteristics cover institution release variables, the history of present offense variables, personal background characteristics, criminal history variables, furlough variables, and release followup variables.
