Abstract
The directory provides State-by-State data on approximately 1,600 juvenile and adult correctional establishments and authorities employing more than 3,500 persons in the United States and Canada. Each section begins with a description of the adult and juvenile correctional system in the State or Territory, followed by specific data on four categories of services -- institutions, parole boards, parole services, and probation services. Statistical summaries present data on fiscal matters, adults and juveniles under supervision, personnel systems and staff, the place of adult and juvenile corrections in State governments, recidivism rates, characteristics of adult paroling authorities, adult prisoners in State and Federal institutions from 1904 through 1981, and more. Information is included on the American Correctional Association's code of ethics, organizational structure, membership, grants and contracts, publications, and training and technical assistance. An index is provided.
