A summary of workload statistics for the U.S. courts of appeals notes that 27,156 appeals were filed during the year. For the U.S. district courts during the same period, 185,622 civil cases were filed, 180,833 were disposed of, and 195,460 were pending; for criminal cases, 31,280 cases were filed, including transfers. Data are given on criminal cases by offense level and type of proceeding, criminal filings in major offense categories, and pending caseload on September 30th. Also mentioned are the probation system workload, persons received for supervision in the Federal probation system, and persons removed from supervision. Workload statistics are noted for U.S. bankruptcy courts, including estates commenced, terminated, and pending, and filed. Data on cases under submission and advisement in the U.S. court of appeals are presented. The report contains 22 tables plus an appendix of detailed statistical tables.
