Primary sources of information for the CAU are crime reports, arrest reports, field interview cards, supplemental reports, and officer daily reports. These data are entered into four key files -- method of operation, suspect/vehicle description, known offender, and field interview -- and also analyzed to identify geographic similar offense crime patterns. The information is disseminated through three major products: patrol mission statements, patrol memorandums, and crime specific bulletins. This report summarizes the input process for the CAU, crime mapping procedures, and the dissemination system. The development plan for the CAU covering February 1978 through February 1979 is included, along with its coding manual and sample data forms. The Stockton police plan to transform the file system from a manual to a semi-automated mode using a minicomputer in the program's second year. Examples of files maintained by the CAU and reports produced are provided. The report's final section focuses on the Stockton Police Department Strike Force, an overlap shift of 21 patrol officers used for surveillance of known criminals or saturation of high crime areas.
