This directory contains more than 500 entries explaining and identifying Federal, State, municipal, and private antiarson programs, resources, organizations, and individuals that can aid in the prevention and control of arson.
Abstract
The Directory's program management resources include State and municipal arson task forces, organizations, squads, and units. The directory covers State, municipal, community, and insurance-industry-sponsored public education programs and also contains entries on tipster/hotline programs, arson newsletters, audiovisual presentations, neighborhood groups, and arson legislation resources. The directory lists investigation and prosecution programs sponsored by State and Federal governments and colleges and universities as well as arson laboratories and equipment manufacturers. Arson data are collected by many of the listed sources, including the Federal arson data programs, the National Fire Incident Reporting System, private data programs, and arson information management systems. The directory also discusses economic factors in arson and lists agencies that make economic data available. The directory identifies resources that deal with behavioral factors, such as juvenile firesetter counseling programs, and also various organizations having special concerns or departments for arson prevention and control. The editor recommends that arson be attacked on several programmatic fronts: management, investigation, prosecution, economic, and behavioral. An index to the listings by organization, program, and contact persons is included.
