This volume in the police management information systems (MIS) series contains most of the technical design qualities of the suggested police MIS model -- the Targeted Information Processing Systems (TIPS). Each TIPS component is described by a general flow chart illustrating inputs, output reports, and file interactions.
Abstract
Descriptions of the 19 different TIPS components include a general flow chart, a listing of on-line terminal capabilities, and a hard-copy batch reporting facilities for each component. Descriptions of each file defined within the TIPS framework include a general description of the file, the record types contained, and the data elements associated with each record type. Several important data elements are also described, including sample codes and definitions for those data elements associated with each record type. A glossary of technical terms is appended. For a summary of the study, see NCJ 82691. For the other volumes in the series, see NCJ 82692-95. (Author summary modified)
