A preliminary draft of jury management standards developed by the Judicial Administration Division (JAD) of the National Center for State Courts is presented for review by interested members of the American Bar Association and other parties concerned with judicial administration.
Abstract
The standards cover jury source lists, random selection, notification, summoning, exclusions, term of service, orientation, juror use, juror compensation, voir dire, peremptory challenges, jury size, and unanimity of verdict. Other topics include eligibility for jury service, jury system administration, jury deliberation, jury facilities, and sequestration. Following a review of the preliminary draft and discussion at an open forum in March 1982, the JAD Jury Standards Committee will circulate revised draft standards prior to their presentation at the American Bar Association House of Delegates at the 1983 midyear meeting.
