Abstract
The bureau provides investigative assistance on suspected arson fires, bombings, and fatal fires to the State's fire service and law enforcement agencies. During 1978, the bureau received 688 requests for assistance from local units of government, representing a 52-percent increase over requests received in 1977. The damage caused by fires, explosions, and bombings investigated by the bureau was about $8.2 million, an 88-percent increase over 1977. The percentage of incendiary incidents increased by 6 percent over 1977, accidental fires decreased by 15 percent, and undetermined fires increased by 10 percent. Statistics on Wisconsin fire losses during 1978 are appended.
