The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) reports on the status of all major program activities, as authorized under the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act (JJDP Act).
Abstract
Section 223 (a) (12) through (15) of the JJDP Act contain the major deinstitutionalization, separation, jail removal, and monitoring clauses. Fifty-one States and territories currently participate in the Act. During fiscal year 1981 over 700 technical assistance requests were responded to by OJJDP contractors. The general areas addressed by OJJDP's research efforts include delinquent behavior and prevention, the juvenile justice system, and alternative programs. A significant emphasis in all areas is the treatment of serious and violent offenders. During fiscal year 1981, the OJJDP training program concentrated in the three major areas of law-related education, judges and court personnel, and alternative juvenile justice programs personnel. By yearend, more than 6,800 participants had been trained at numerous training sessions, seminars, conferences, and workshops. The Juvenile Justice Clearinghouse operated by Aspen Systems Corporation performed most of the distribution functions of the National Institute for Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. The 36 restitution projects received third-year funding for operation during 1981.
