The manual explains goals, recruiting methods, training, recordkeeping, volunteer assignment, and supervision of adult and juvenile cases, as practiced by the Volunteer Division of the Camden County Probation Department (New Jersey).
Abstract
The division supervises referred clients to assist them in adjusting to society. Supervision is on a one-to-one basis. Volunteers are recruited from public service announcements and notices and through volunteers' own efforts. Volunteers are asked to make a 1-year commitment to the program. They must meet their probationers for a minimum of 1 hour per week, complete the training course offered, and submit written progress reports to the case supervisor. The 10-hour training course is conducted by the professional probation staff with the assistance of outside speakers. Volunteers are matched with clients by background, age, and interests. Sample publicity forms and probation materials are included.
