Representatives from the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention's Technical Assistance Office explain what technical assistance involves and the steps necessary for programs such as Project New Pride to obtain technical aid.
Abstract
Each New Pride project will complete a needs assessment instrument every 6 months. Technical assistance staff will then develop a work plan which establishes steps in the delivery process. They will deliver this aid during cluster or quarterly meetings with the particular project, or onsite. Staff will develop a recipient report for the project/client which outlines what types of technical assistance were recommended and what followup activities were done. They will assess the client's satisfaction with their technical assistance. Although technical assistance is not mandatory, it is recommended as a means of improving performance; requests for technical assistance are not signs of weaknesses. Projects should be aware of the responsibilities of each technical assistance staff member and should know the procedures for requesting emergency technical assistance. A question and answer session concludes the tape.
