Between 1978-81, criminal justice expenditures for all town, village, and city governments in New York increased by 23.4 percent. However, when adjusted for inflation, expenditures actually decreased about 11.5 percent.
Abstract
The total number of criminal justice personnel remained relatively constant during this period. During 1980, about all levels of government in the State spent about $3.029 billion for criminal justice services and programs. Of this amount, 47 percent were State expenditures, 32 percent were New York City expenditures, and 21 percent were local expenses. Tables and graphs, which form the bulk of the report, offer further breakdowns for personnel by level of government and for violent offenses.
