A total of 592,989 crime Index offenses (minus arson) were reported in Illinois in 1980, an increase of 3.3 percent compared to 1979. Violent crimes accounted for 55,774 Index offenses, or 9.4 percent of the total.
Abstract
Crimes against property totaled 537,215 offenses, or 90.6 percent of the total. The report explains the Illinois Uniform Crime Reporting (I-UCR) program, presents crime trends for crimes against persons and crimes against property, and compares the crime Index for 1980 and 1979. Crime data are given for Standard Metropolitan Statistical Areas. Offense and clearance data; law enforcement agency information pertaining to officers killed, assaulted, and employed; a glossary; and the I-UCR codes are included. Tables, graphs, and maps are provided.
