These guidelines explain the various components the classification system: assessment of client risk, assessment of client needs and strengths, and supervision plan guidelines. In assessing client risk, the total risk assessment score is determined by the sum of points assigned for the eight screening criteria on the Assessment of Client Risk Form. On the basis of the scores, clients are placed in supervision levels denoted as maximum, moderate, and minimum. A detailed explanation is provided for how to complete the assessment form. In developing a supervision plan, the probation officer determines the client's task-relevant maturity through an analysis of the client's ability and motivation in each of the 10 needs/strengths areas indicated. The probation officer's intervention style is expected to be related to the client's task-relevant maturity. The four supervision styles that may be selected according to a client's task-relevant maturity are surveillance, concrete needs counseling, emotional needs counseling, and self-help. Guidelines are provided for supervision in the areas of employment, marital and family relationships, social relations, alcohol and other drug use, counseling, health, living arrangements, and financial management.
