This report discusses major lawsuits brought by the New York State Department of Law during 1980, involving civil rights and environmental protection issues as well as taxation and prisoner-related litigation.
Abstract
The nation's largest environmental lawsuit was brought against two chemical companies for dumping toxic wastes at Love Canal and other sites, and action was taken to enforce pollution standards. The U. S. Census Bureau and local utility companies were also sued, and numerous consumer actions were taken. Computer systems were implemented to centralize information and speed auditing and other functions. A financial report and a list of regional law offices are included.
