Abstract
It describes home and apartment precautions, noting that 50 percent of the rapes committed nationwide occur in the victim's home, and safety on the streets (from purse snatchers and pickpockets) and on public transport, as well as methods of safeguarding vehicles. The authors also mention personal security precautions to take at recreational facilities, in restaurants and stores, in elevators, and while walking alone. A section on sexual assault includes some victim and offender statistics, notes prevention methods, and explains crime reporting procedures. Self-defense techniques involve the fighting stance, personal body weapons, blocking, use of sample objects as weapons, and defense against weapons. Relevant police tactics are examined, warmup exercises illustrated, and use of the night stick and other weapons are explained. Numerous photographs are included.
