The characteristics include reason for commitment, county of commitment, maximum and minimum sentence, education on commitment, dangerous drug usage, prior adult criminal record, ethnic distribution, marital status, violent felony offenders, and second felony offenders. Data indicate that the most common offense that males committed was robbery, followed by burglary. Most male inmates had failed to complete high school and had a previous adult criminal record. About half were black, single, and drug users.
