Abstract
Also required are long-range program planning, a public awareness campaign coordinated at the State level, and a cooperative effort between State and local agencies. Steps in setting up a crime prevention program include analyzing the local crime problem, examining various crime deterrent strategies (crime interruption, incarceration, crime causes, opportunity reduction), and analyzing the status of ongoing crime prevention activities at the State and local levels. Four main components of a statewide crime prevention program are an information clearinghouse, technical assistance, training, and public awareness. Steps in presenting a statewide crime prevention program to decisionmakers are outlined. Crime Prevention Coalition members are listed.
