NCJ Number
87906
Date Published
1981
Length
175 pages
Annotation
These guidelines should help probation officers working in New York's Intensive Supervision Program (ISP) effectively supervise high risk offenders sentenced to probation.
Abstract
The ISP includes a standardized assistance procedure for probationers, limits on caseload size, and a conceptual framework for service delivery, including a standard needs assessment and evaluation process. The report explains case flow and management procedures, controls over the frequency and types of contacts, and processes for handling probation violations. It explains how probation officers can systematically collect data allowing ongoing program evaluation, so that necessary program modifications can be made. Procedures for the various program forms are explained. Three footnotes and numerous program forms are supplied.
