Review of the Regional Advisory Councils in the Department of Corrections

The five Regional Advisory Councils under Florida's Department of Corrections have not been successful in accomplishing their statutory goals and duties.
Abstract
Instead of communicating community and local criminal justice system ideas to the regional administration, each council has communicated the regional administration's ideas to the community and local justice systems. Although commitment and interest vary among the five councils, their overall substantive influence is less than successful. They have not contributed to the public interest because their members are unsure of their roles and they have to rely entirely on the regional administration for information. They should be abolished unless alternatives the report recommends are instituted. Appendixes include the enabling statute, a list of council members, and meetings and attendance records.
