The computerized system integrates data on all civil and criminal records of Quebec's four most important judicial districts. It provides information to lawyers, judges, and others involved in legal proceedings and, in particular, supplies management data to court administrators and chief justices.
Abstract
The computer system consists of one central computer, remote job entry terminals, four Entrex mini-computers for data entry, about 100 display units with attached printers, and teller terminals that record and deposit money. Data processing is semi-decentralized. The report lists the principal software now in use, details the operations of and security for the system, and explains how data are processed and what each court record contains. The system has attained greater flexibility in adapting to new laws and policies; a substantial decrease in personnel productivity since the computer carries out the routine tasks of filing, registering, updating, calculating, and preparing of reports; and better control of capital and resources. Forms, organizational charts, and some statistical data are included.
