This paper uses a systems approach model to describe the general organizational structure of the prison suprasystem. Such a model is viewed as a means to analyze organizational difficulties and point to organizational renewal. Social and behavioral scientists in corrections must address the structural, as well as the human, aspects of the organization so as to enhance the possibility of providing a social setting conducive to facilitating change in people. An OD program will at least integrate goals and cause mutual understanding. This would aid custodial and treatment personnel in developing some commonality to their work with inmates.
