Library security must be a coordinated and integrated function using the talents, skills, and experiences of both library and security professionals.
Abstract
Crucial program elements are open communication between librarians and security professionals about their common problems. Two surveys are required before a program can be designed: an inventory sample and a physical facility survey with a systems review to locate internal control weaknesses. In designing a security plan, the library staff and security professionals should establish short-range and long-range objectives, identify quantifiable goals, and select resources. The security program will modify collection loss by taking positive security steps of design, training, internal control, and physical facility adjustment. One reference is provided.
