This report monitored the types of patrol duties given to male and female police officers in El Monte, Calif., to determine whether these duties were assigned on the basis of work experience or sex to analyze sex differences in performance.
Abstract
By studying official patrol car logs, the researchers were able to follow the performance of newly trained officers for over 145 tours of duty. Assignment of men to more 'high risk' calls, observed in early tours, disappeared as the officers accumulated more experience. Over the course of the study, there were few if any significant differences in male-female performance. A table, 1 note, and 11 references are supplied. Similar research is also cited.
