This film advocates that hospital emergency workers become sensitive to the needs of victims in domestic violence cases and urges the development of an intervention protocol in cooperation with the local police and community agencies in the area.
Abstract
The discussion suggests strategies for evolving a hospital program of special attention to battered women, based on identification of domestic violence victims and intervention in the form of asking the right questions and introducing the possibility of change to the victimized women. Emergency personnel should develop familiarity with the dilemmas of battered women who may be reluctant to admit the true cause of their injuries and unaware of supportive services available to them. For these reasons, hospital intervention should be based on the laws of the State pertaining to victim support and coordinated with the police and other service agencies to constitute a mutual policy concerning the fight against domestic violence.
