The monthly criminal police statistics cite the number of crimes known to the police by province by groups of municipalities, by the nature of the offense, and by the number of crimes known to the Royal Marechaussee. Also shown are nonindictable offenses recorded by the State and municipal police (e.g., traffic offenses) as well as the Royal Marechaussee for which prosecution was evaded by paying a fine. The 1981 judicial statistics are given in terms of civil matters before ordinary and district courts. Petitions for asylum, the number of extraditions, and the number of persons in custody are also given. Additional tabulations provide data on economic offenses, bankruptcies, fires, and assistance by fire brigades. The bulk of the documents is in tabular form.
